Roslovic Scores Twice, but Mammoth Edge Maple Leafs 3-2 on Late Power Play
Nick Schmaltz's goal after a Darren Raddysh cross-check sinks Toronto in the first game of a six-game homestand.

Jack Roslovic scored twice, but the Maple Leafs couldn't complete the comeback. Nick Schmaltz scored on a third-period power play to give the Utah Mammoth a 3-2 win at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night, NHL.com reported.
The loss leaves Toronto at 8-7-2, with one win in its past four games (1-3-0). It was the Leafs' first home game after a 2-2-0 road trip and, according to the Toronto Sun, the first of a six-game homestand.
How it unfolded
Utah went ahead with 13 seconds left in the first period. Dylan Guenther took a pass from Mikhail Sergachev on the power play and shot through traffic past Sergei Bobrovsky's blocker from the top of the right faceoff circle. The Mammoth outshot Toronto 14-9 in the period, according to the game summary.
Roslovic tied it at 10:20 of the second. Auston Matthews forced a turnover behind the net and swung the puck into the slot, and Roslovic beat Sebastian Cossa over the glove. The goal stretched Roslovic's point streak to a career-high seven games (five goals, seven assists).
Utah regained the lead at 13:42. Bobrovsky stopped Clayton Keller with his left pad, but the rebound went to Andrew Peeke, who shot from just inside the blue line. Barrett Hayton made contact with Bobrovsky's right skate on the play, and Toronto chose not to challenge.
Utah appeared to make it 3-1 at 17:20 of the second, but the goal was disallowed after officials ruled that Hayton had interfered with Bobrovsky in the crease.
A third-period push falls short
Toronto came out stronger in the third and outshot Utah 12-6 in the period. Roslovic tied the game at 9:05: he took a pass from Matthews at the blue line, skated in alone and tucked a backhand deke past Cossa's blocker.
The momentum didn't last. Darren Raddysh took a cross-checking penalty on Anders Lee at 11:42, a penalty away from the play, according to NHL.com. On the ensuing power play, Bobrovsky stretched to make a pad save on Keller's one-timer, but Schmaltz poked in the loose rebound at 13:12. That left 6:48 in regulation, as the AP noted.
By the numbers
Utah outshot Toronto 36-29 and went 2-for-3 on the power play. The Leafs went 0-for-2. Toronto won 55.8 per cent of faceoffs. Bobrovsky made 33 saves, and Cossa made 27 for Utah.
Matthews had two assists. For the Mammoth, Keller had three assists and Sergachev two. Utah improved to 10-6-0 and has alternated wins and losses over its past nine games. It also won 5-4 against Toronto on Oct. 13 and leads the season series 2-0.
What they said
"There's no excuses," Matthews said, per NHL.com. "It doesn't matter with the schedule, the travel, the time change and all that. You have to come ready to play, regardless. You're not going to have your legs every single night but just try to find a way to compete and grind through. And unfortunately, it took half the game. But I thought we found it."
Utah coach Andre Tourigny said his team played "a really, really good hockey game for the first two periods," but added: "They had a push in the third and we were on our heels a little bit and we will learn a lot from that."
The Toronto Sun summed it up: the Leafs failed to play 60 minutes of consistently good hockey and didn't find their legs until the third period.
